Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors comprises elected community members who guide our strategic direction and oversee operations.
Board members are elected for a term of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal for two additional terms, and can serve for three consecutive terms at most.
Lindsay Allan — Chair
Lindsay graduated in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Napier College, Edinburgh, Scotland. She spent the majority of her career in senior management and executive roles in the medical laboratory field in both the public and private health care sectors in BC. Prior to moving to Mayne in early 2011, Lindsay was President of Excelleris Technologies Inc. for 10 years. (Excelleris provides electronic transmission of medical lab results to physicians and patients through MyCareCompass — previously known as My Ehealth.)
Lindsay joined MIHCA's board in 2012 and was elected Chair in 2013. With the exception of one year out in 2019, Lindsay has been on the board since 2013 and has served as chair for most of that time.
In that role, Lindsay also serves on many Southern Gulf Island and Provincial rural health-related working groups and committees.
Joy McFarlane - Treasurer
The McFarlane family has been based on Mayne for over 40 years and Joy moved here permanently in the summer of 2023. Prior to moving back to Canada, Joy primarily resided in the Cayman Islands while completing overseas secondments to the Channel Islands and Australia in conjunction with job-related travel across India, Europe, USA and the Caribbean.
She began her career at UBC attaining a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology while working in a research lab on campus. Later she became a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) employed by a public accounting firm in downtown Vancouver (for seven years) before embarking on a career in international business and finance. As a firm believer in continuous learning, Joy went on to earn further qualifications as a qualified estate practitioner (TEP), a Chartered Director (C.Dir.) and obtained a certificate in the Fundamentals of Alternative Investments (through CAIA Association).
Joy's on-the-job experience during the past twenty-three years abroad has been extensive and encompasses executive roles across many sectors including but not limited to: banking, accounting, corporate governance, hedge funds, fiduciary, estate planning, real estate acquisition and development, property management, social impact investing and biotechnology.
Since becoming a full-timer on Mayne, Joy has been enjoying the peace and beauty of island life with her three rescue dogs and members of her family who live nearby.
Joy was elected to the MIHCA Board in June 2024.
David Gordon-Brown
I’m a retired family doctor who has worked in the UK and New Zealand over 30 years.
My original degree was in Economics- graduating in 1974.After a period of work and travel I changed career track and graduated in medicine from University College Hospital in London in 1984.
After 5 years of hospital medicine I settled into General Practice in a semi-rural location in Suffolk where I remained for 25 years.
My connection with Canada is through my mother who was born in Saskatoon and moved to England in 1950.
I’m married with 3 grown up children one of whom has lived in Vancouver for 11 years. My wife Gail and I came to Mayne in 2021 where we now live for 6 months every year.
David is a retired family doctor who worked in the UK and New Zealand over 30 years.
David leads our annual health fair and represents MIHCA on the Southern Gulf Islands Adivsory Committee.
David was elected to the MIHCA board in July 2023.
Tara Walker
Tara Walker is a Primary Care Paramedic living full time on Mayne Island. Tara was born and raised in Edmonton Alberta.
January of 2007 at the age of 25, Tara made the journey to BC looking to live in one of the most beautiful places in Canada, ready to begin a family and enjoy all the wonders of the West Coast. Tara has been a full-time resident on Mayne Island since January of 2012.
While raising two children here on Mayne Island Tara has created many strong relationships in the Mayne Island community and felt that she had more to offer.
Tara was on the Mayne Island school PAC board for 6 years; Tara was PAC chair for 3 of those years.
Tara has been a Mayne Island Lions member since 2016.
June of 2018 Tara obtained her Emergency Medical Responder licence and became employed with BCEHS in October of 2018.
While working part time with BC Ferries on Mayne Island Tara then studied at the Justice Institute of British Columbia to upgrade her Paramedic licence to a Primary Care Paramedic license and increase the medical scope of practice to better support and serve the community of Mayne Island.
Currently Tara is the Unit Chief of the BCEHS Ambulance station 104 on Mayne Island.
Now that Tara’s children have become teenagers and beginning their pre-adult life, Tara now once again feels she can offer more to the community of Mayne Island.
Tara joined the MIHCA board in the summer of 2025 and hopes her position and interest in the health care system will be beneficial to MIHCA as well as the community here on Mayne Island.
Maureen Codispodi
Maureen is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with more than 25 years of experience in mental health, education, and counselling.
She is the founder director and a therapist at Help Clinic Canada. Maureen has worked to expand access to affordable, high-quality virtual mental health services across Canada, with a particular focus on serving rural and remote communities.
She also runs a low fee therapy clinic that supports and trains social work and counselling psychology students from universities across Canada. She also works as a school counsellor for School District 64 Gulf Islands.
A resident of Mayne Island, Maureen was elected to the MIHCA Board in 2026.
