MIHCA July Update and notice of AGM July 18th at Church House

MIHCA AGM: Please join us at our AGM on July 18th at 10 am at the Church House. We are proposing amendments to our current Bylaws to bring them in line with the Society Act model. We have attached a draft for your review. Our current Bylaws can be viewed here.

Community Wellness Coordinator: We are pleased to announce that Lucy Zhong has accepted the contract with MIHCA to manage our community wellness programs and to provide health navigation support for clients who currently have no health care provider. Lucy can be reached at communitywellness@mihcaboard.ca

Registered Nurse – Accommodation: We have mentioned Janie Ticehurst in past updates. Janie has accepted the part time RN position for the Health Clinic, but this is contingent upon her finding accommodation for her family (and dog) to relocate to Mayne. If you know of any potential opportunities, please send a note to admin@mihcaboard.ca We are extremely grateful to the community members who have come forward with offers so far.

Ears to you – Audiology Clinic: This mobile audiology clinic will be on Mayne July 6th and 7th. While both days are now fully booked, you can call to go on the waitlist or, to make an appointment for their next visit in early August.

To find out more information, call 250-449-1648. More details regarding preparation for your appointment can be viewed here.

Health Centre Association Board Members: We are currently looking for three new members to join our board at our AGM in July. If you have an interest in what we do and our focus on increasing health care services on Mayne, please contact our nominating committee at admin@mihcaboard.ca for more information. We welcome a wide diversity of backgrounds and skills.

Provincial Health Connect Registry: If you aren’t already registered on the Provincial Wait List for a primary healthcare provider, it’s important that you are. Even if you currently have a provider off island, you can still register if you would prefer to have access to a local family physician or nurse practitioner. Once additional local resources are in place, you will be contacted by the registry. If you believe you are already on the list, call 811 to confirm that you actually are. Registration for the Health Connect Registry can be done at https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/health-connect-registry or you can call 811.

Your help please: Please support our efforts by becoming a member of the Health Centre Association ($10 individual or $20 per family annually). Not only does this provide financial support, the more members we have, the greater our ability to lobby for government support and grants.

As well, we welcome your donations. Tax receipts are issued for donations of $20 or more.  It’s important for us to know, whether you are paying by e-transfer or cheque, what your payment is for. Please indicate that on the memo line on your cheque or in the message section of an e-transfer.  Just specify Donation (and amount) and/or Membership (and amount). To do either please visit www.mayneislandhealth.ca and click “Get Involved” then “Donations & Memberships” (near the top right corner of the home page). Or, you can send a cheque to MIHCA at #100 – 526 Felix Jack Road, Mayne Island V0N 2J2. Thank you for your support.
