CanScreen BC is Closing!
CanScreen Closure Update and Next Steps
CanScreen was created to help patients without a family doctor access cancer screening, follow-up, and support after abnormal results. After three years of service, we have made the difficult decision to wind down the clinic, with final closure on July 30, 2026. While CanScreen showed that a centralized, virtual-first model can improve access to care, continuing this work long term would require broader health system coordination, shared responsibility, and stable system-level support. Unfortunately, we were not able to secure that support in a way that would allow the service to continue.
We know this may be disappointing or stressful for some patients. Our goal is to make the transition as clear and safe as possible.
If CanScreen helped you, we would be grateful if you took a few minutes to share your experience through this short feedback form.
What current patients need to know
CanScreen is no longer accepting new patients or starting new screening tests where results and follow-up cannot reasonably be completed before closure.
If you are already in the CanScreen system, we will continue to support you until July 30, 2026. This includes reviewing results, helping with follow-up plans, and communicating clinically important findings.
If you have a screening or diagnostic test booked before July 30, 2026, please book a follow-up appointment with CanScreen after your test so we can review the result with you and make sure you have a clear plan.
If your test or follow-up is expected after July 30, 2026, you will need to arrange care through another doctor, clinic, or local health service.
Accessing your results
Most patients can access test results through their local health authority patient portal.
For Island Health patients, results are available through MyHealth:
getmyhealth.islandhealth.ca
LifeLabs results are available through MyCareCompass:

Help us show why CanScreen mattered
CanScreen was built to address a real gap in care. Many patients without a family doctor still need access to cancer screening, result review, and safe follow-up.
If CanScreen helped you, we would be grateful if you shared your experience through this short feedback form:
CanScreen / Access to Care Feedback
Patient feedback may help show health system leaders and government decision-makers why services like CanScreen are important, especially for people who do not have regular access to primary care.
Thank you for trusting CanScreen with your care. We are grateful to every patient, provider, and partner who supported this work.
