MIHCA June 2026 Update
Thank-you Mayne Island Lions: for donating the materials so we were able to make access to the Mobile Office easier for those who struggle with stairs. No doubt, many of us will benefit from the Lions’ generosity.
Salish Sea Mental Health and Substance Use Pathways Survey:
Led by the Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice (RRDFP), the purpose of the survey is to find out how residents of Mayne, Pender, Galiano and Saturna Islands experience finding and accessing mental health and substance use care. Identify what is working well, what is difficult and where people get stuck or unsure and, to improve how people find, understand, and connect to existing services.
The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete, all questions are optional and can be completed for yourself or on behalf of someone else. There is also an option to enter a draw for a $50 gift card.
If you prefer, paper copies of the survey are available at the Health Centre.
Please complete the survey https://tinyurl.com/4c9m5rxc
Provincial Health Connect Registry:
If you haven’t already registered on the Provincial Wait List for a primary healthcare provider, it’s important that you do. Even if you may currently have a provider off island but would prefer to have access to a local family physician or nurse practitioner, you can still register. Once additional local resources are in place, you will be contacted by the registry. If you believe you already are on the list call 811 to confirm that you actually are.
Registration for the Health Connect Registry can be done at https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/health-connect-registry or you can call 811.
Health Centre Association Board Members We arecurrently looking for three new members to join our board in July. If you have an interest in what we do and our focus on increasing health care services on Mayne, please contact our nominating committee at admin@mihcaboard.ca for more information. We welcome a wide diversity of backgrounds and skills.
For your information, here is a recent announcement from CanScreen BC:
"CanScreen is Closing: CanScreen was created to help patients without a family doctor access cancer screening, follow-up, and support after abnormal results. After three years of service, we have made the difficult decision to wind down the clinic, with final closure on July 30, 2026. While CanScreen showed that a centralized, virtual-first model can improve access to care, continuing this work long term would require broader health system coordination, shared responsibility and stable system-level support. Unfortunately, we were not able to secure that support in a way that would allow the service to continue."

Your Help, please: Please support the Health Centre Association’s efforts by becoming a member of the Health Centre Association ($10 individual or $20 per family annually). Not only does this provide financial support - the more members we have, the greater our ability to lobby for government support and grants.
As well, we welcome your donations. Tax receipts are issued for donations of $20 or more. It’s important for us to know, whether you are paying by e-transfer or cheque what your payment is for. Please indicate that on the memo line on your cheque or in the message section of an e-transfer i.e. Donation $20 and Membership $20.
To do either please visit www.mayneislandhealth.ca and click “Get Involved” then “Donations & Memberships” (near the top right corner of the home page). Or, you can send a cheque to MIHCA at #100 – 526 Felix Jack Road, Mayne Island V0N 2J2.
